Experimenting with watercolour paper

Updated: Dec 12, 2018

Recently I was commissioned to illustrate a large wall hanging for a child's bedroom. The client wanted a mural but wanted to be able to take it with them when they moved house! I decided to do a giant watercolour paper, as it would suit the style of painting subject required. I experimented with a few different paper types, as I;d not done a water colour that large previously and wanted to saturate the paper to get lovely floaty textures without the paper going wrinkly.
